Hoda Barakat’s works, since her first novel La pièrre du ride (1990), are set in places that the war has transformed and destroyed. In the narrative spaces take the form of Beirut during the civil war and their protagonists, to date, are men characterized by uncertain identities, who physically occupy abandoned spaces, but also live in a very personal and fascinating land of no identity, between reality and hallucination. During the meeting, Barakat spoke about the physical and emotional geographies of her novels, about exile, about her languages and her life as a “foreigner” in Paris.
Le opere di Hoda Barakat fin dal suo primo romanzo, La pièrre du ride del 1990, si svolgono in luoghi che la guerra ha trasformato e distrutto. Nel corso della narrazione gli spazi prendono la forma di Beirut durante durante la guerra civile e i suoi protagonisti, fino ad oggi, sono uomini dall’identità incerta, che occupano fisicamente spazi abbandonati, ma abitano anche in una personale, affascinante terra di nessuno identitaria, tra realtà e deformazione allucinata. Nell’ incontro, Barakat ha parlato delle geografie fisiche ed emotive dei suoi romanzi, di esilio, delle sue lingue e della sua vita da “straniera” a Parigi.
