Belgian French-speaking writer, she was born in Kobe, Japan, in 1967, to diplomat parents. In 1992 her first novel, The Murderer’s Hygiene, was published in France and became the literary event of the year: 100,000 copies sold, two stage versions, and a movie. For the same publisher, Albin Michel (in Italy Voland), all her following books came out yearly. Translated into 15 languages, her books won numerous literary awards including the Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie Française and the Prix Internet du Livre for Amazement and tremors (which was made into a film directed by Alain Corneau), the Prix de neither Flore for Adam nor Eve and twice the Prix du Jury for Le Jean Giono catilinarie and Force Majeure. Since her first novel Amélie Nothomb has imposed a style: an incisive, often merciless and cruel gaze, humor, original stories that revolve around eternal feelings

Scrittrice belga di lingua francese, nasce a Kobe, in Giappone, nel 1967, figlia di diplomatici. Del 1992 è il primo romanzo, Igiene dell’assassino, pubblicato in Francia, caso letterario dell’anno: 100.000 copie vendute, due versioni teatrali, un film. Per la stessa casa editrice, la Albin Michel (in Italia la Voland), usciranno poi con cadenza annuale i tutti i suoi libri. Tradotta in 15 lingue, ha ottenuto numerosi premi letterari tra cui il Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie Française e il Prix Internet du Livre per Stupore e tremori (da cui è stato tratto anche un film diretto da Alain Corneau), il Prix de Flore per Né di Eva né di Adamo e due volte il Prix du Jury Jean Giono per Le catilinarie e Causa di forza maggiore. Sin dal primo romanzo Amélie Nothomb ha imposto uno stile: sguardo incisivo, spesso impietoso e crudele, umorismo fulmineo, storie originali che ruotano intorno a sentimenti eterni.
